REEF KEEPER

Experience
Freshwater: A long time.
Saltwater Fish & Reef Aquariums: 10 - 12 years
Having a great fascination with aquatic species and research I began maintaining closed aquarium environments early on. I did not know then how fragile saltwater fish and corals are and how much effort is required to maintain healthy colonies in a closed system, but I have a natural ability of reef keeping and I have been extremely successful at it. What started as a fish only display turned into fully stocked reef aquariums after adding the required equipment to raise a large variety of corals. Fascination with reef species led to an extensive amount of knowledge which developed into a never ending obsession. Research and learning earned me a blue thumb. I don't plan on changing anytime soon and I do not plan on converting to any "miracle" methods marketed through the trade or $ making scheme. Trends will come, trends will go. I stick to what is effective and what has been through my experience. That is my secret to growing healthy corals. If I modified the setups every time a new product was produced or every time I received ignorant advice I'd have a lot of dead species and very empty pockets. What works for some does not always work for others. All tanks are different in terms of temperature, salinity, trace elements, filtration, lighting, volume, species kept, and the list goes on. Some things are for certain..Corals do not tolerate constantly changing environments nor do they take well to direct - ridiculously high flow whipping (or better described as a simulation of hurricane season) them off the rocks. For more helpful tips check back at a later date as I am sure I will write an article covering the topic.

Mission
What started as pure curiosity many years ago has become much more meaningful. I maintain display reef aquariums and also a fully stocked propagation system that I use for growing out coral fragments. I've been fragmenting and raising coral cultures for approximately 8+ years. I started instructing new propagation techniques on the internet in 2008 in order to prevent further destruction to the natural reefs through improper coral farming practices. I wanted to do more with the experience other than owning colorful displays.

Display Systems
Currently I have two very full display systems. Unlike many I have prevented the obsession from turning into a reef killing addiction. I'm content with the systems to where I don't have the desire to over do it with too many or too large of aquariums and I always purchase tank raised species.

Propagation System
The current propagation system holds soft corals. Images and data will be posted when construction of the new setup is complete.
